“The benefits of employing Trinity Horne to work with us on two programmes to enhance operational performance have been enormous. Across both programmes, Trinity Horne’s value orientated, Return on Investment based proposition has delivered nearly £5m of improvements which we would not have been able to achieve without their help. Undoubtedly skilled in helping clients to realise self funded operational improvements, their willingness to flex in response to Mercer’s own changing resource priorities, without losing sight of the original objectives, have impressed me. Their consultants worked hard to build rapport with the management team at all levels, even during the inevitable sticky phases of a change programme”.

Fault Rate Reduction

Trinity Horne has extensive hands on experience of helping IT, Utilities and Communications companies successfully reduce their fault rates and truck-rolls. This is an area where substantial improvement potential exists in most network and asset based businesses. To be effective it requires a holistic approach to maintenance management.

Benchmark studies in the area of Asset Management tend to come from within manufacturing environments however surveys suggest the typical mix of maintenance activity performed leaves significant potential for improvement. The norm is for 55% of activity to be reactive, 30% preventive and 15% predictive/proactive. The SMRP (Society of Maintenance & Reliability Professionals) in the US have suggested that the top quartile of performers have the following breakdown of maintenance activity;

  • 10% Reactive
  • 30% Preventive
  • 50% Predictive/Proactive

A key element in getting this mix right is a company’s Maintenance Management System. An effective, holistic Maintenance Management System is essential to ensuring service disruption is minimised and that it is delivered in the most cost effective way possible. It should enable better informed decision making in the following areas;

  • Investment strategies
  • Propensity to fail models
  • Fault reduction programmes
  • Capital spend optimisation
  • Resource requirements planning
  • Network & resource performance management

In 2010, Trinity Horne was shortlisted by the Management Consultancies Association and Management Today for an Innovation Award for our work with clients in this area. For more information about our approach to Fault Rate Reduction, please contact us.
